From the Governor of the State of Maryland

Nentico Lodge Centennial Day

June 30, 2022

WHEREAS, The Order of the Arrow was founded by Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson on July 16, 1915 at the Treasure Island Scout Camp of the Philadelphia Council, Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, Nentico Lodge was formally instituted on June 30, 1922 by Goodman at the Baltimore Area Council’s Camp Linstead on the Severn River, at the request of Scout Executive W. Perry Bradley, becoming the twelfth local Order of the Arrow lodge and the first in Maryland; and

WHEREAS, Since that initial ceremony in 1922, an estimated 30,000 Maryland scouts and scout leaders have taken the obligation of the Order of the Arrow as a member of Nentico Lodge, maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting camping and enhancing their local scout troops and communities by providing cheerful service to others; and

WHEREAS, The role of the Order of the Arrow has evolved to become “Scouting’s National Honor Society,” and its reach expanded to include a greater focus on leadership development, membership extension, adventurous programming, and broader service to Scouting and the community; and

WHEREAS, Nentico Lodge steadfastly continues to recognize scouts and scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and in doing so provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well;

NOW THEREFORE I, LAWRENCE J. HOGAN, JR. GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, do hereby proclaim June 30, 2022 as NENTICO LODGE CENTENNIAL DAY in Maryland and do urge all citizens to support this observance.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has proclaimed June 30, 2022, "Nentico Lodge Centennial Day" in recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the local Order of the Arrow lodge of the Baltimore Area Council Boy Scouts of America.

The Order of the Arrow is Scouting's National Honor Society and since 1922, Nentico Lodge has carried out the mission of the Order of the Arrow, recognizing scouts and scout leaders across the communities of central Maryland who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Over the past 100 years, an estimated 30,000 Arrowmen have taken the obligation of the Order as a member of Nentico Lodge.

Today, Nentico Lodge has over 1,500 members committed to the principles of Brotherhood, Cheerfulness and Service in support of their communities, their local scout units and the Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation in Harford County.
